Man charged with second-degree murder in the death of his child’s mother

A man has been charged with second-degree murder in Stafford County after the body of a 19-year-old woman, who was the mother of his child, was found shot to death on Tuesday.

The incident took place just before 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Crescent Valley Drive.

Aliyah Henderson, 19, was discovered inside a house with a gunshot wound, according to a police statement. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Trevon Vanzant, age 21, was reportedly found at the residence along with his and Henderson’s one-year-old child as well as another member of the family. They did not suffer any injuries.

After conducting an investigation, the police came to the conclusion that Vanzant had shot Henderson “during a dispute,” and they subsequently arrested him.

Additionally, Vanzant was charged with the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony as well as possession of a firearm by a felon.
