Woman, who stabbed her 58-year-old ex-boyfriend with a large hunting knife when he asked her to leave after a loud argument over texting other women, pleaded not guilty
West Virginia – In a shocking incident in West Virginia, a 51-year-old woman, identified as B. Miller, is facing serious criminal charges after a late-night domestic dispute ended with her stabbing her 58-year-old ex-boyfriend, identified as J. Vineyard, with a large hunting-style knife. The altercation took place at the victim’s home, where Miller attacked her former partner during a confrontation over his communication with other women. Miller has been charged with malicious assault, a felony, and domestic battery, a misdemeanor, in connection with the incident. She has pleaded not guilty to both charges.
The police department responded to a 911 call on the evening of June 3, reporting a stabbing at a residence. When an officer arrived, he found Vineyard standing in his living room suffering from a serious knife wound to the chest. According to the criminal complaint, Vineyard told the officer that Miller had come to his residence and refused to return his house key. The situation escalated when Miller allegedly became enraged after discovering Vineyard had been texting other women. The argument became so loud that Vineyard feared it might draw the attention of his landlord and potentially get him evicted.
Vineyard stated that after he repeatedly asked Miller to leave, she suddenly pulled out a long, serrated hunting blade—and stabbed him below the center of his chest. The attack left a wound approximately two centimeters deep and four centimeters long, along with a second cut below the main injury that appeared to result from the knife being pulled out in a downward slicing motion. After the stabbing, Miller allegedly fled the scene in a vehicle.
The day after the incident, a patrol officer spotted Miller driving along a road. After pulling her over, the officer detained her and searched her vehicle. In the trunk, hidden under a bag, he discovered a pair of flip-flops with what appeared to be fresh blood on the sides. Miller was reportedly wearing a dress that also had visible blood stains. In addition to the bloody clothing, police recovered a knife matching Vineyard’s description of the weapon used in the stabbing. The blade was still inside a sheath, which had a cut in it — potentially indicating that the stabbing occurred while the knife was still partially or fully inside its cover. Another woman was in the vehicle with Miller at the time of the traffic stop. That individual was also arrested after officers allegedly found her in possession of drug paraphernalia.
Miller reportedly gave conflicting statements to police during questioning. At first, she claimed that she had left Vineyard’s home before any violence took place. Later, she changed her story, admitting that Vineyard “got in her face,” prompting her to use the knife in self-defense — although she insisted she did not remember pulling it from its sheath.
Despite her claims, officers pointed to the presence of Vineyard’s stab wounds, the recovered weapon, the blood-stained items in the vehicle, and eyewitness accounts as significant evidence in the case. Miller is currently being held at the regional jail on a $10,000 cash surety bond. No trial date has been set yet, but prosecutors are expected to pursue the felony assault charge vigorously. Meanwhile, Vineyard is recovering from his injuries and cooperating with law enforcement.
