Roanoke County residents urged to beware of phone scammers

Roanoke County, Virginia – The Roanoke County Police Department is urging residents to exercise vigilance amid a recent surge in telephone scams plaguing the local area.

Reports indicate that members of the public are being targeted by fraudulent telephone calls, where impostors pose as representatives from the Roanoke County Police. These impostors inform unsuspecting residents that they have defaulted on a court date and are required to make an immediate payment to rectify the situation.

These impersonators further claim that the resident’s credit card was rejected, proceeding to provide what seems to be an authentic link for the purpose of payment, as per the police department’s statement.

In response to this, the Roanoke County Police have issued a clear warning. Residents are strongly advised against sharing any form of payment details, financial information, or personal data over the phone with individuals alleging to be from the Roanoke County Police. It is essential to understand that the Roanoke County Police Department does not engage in soliciting funds or financial information via telephone under any circumstances.

This advisory serves to safeguard the public from falling victim to such deceitful tactics. If you are contacted in this manner, you are advised to immediately report the incident to the appropriate authorities.
