Fugitive sought for several charges in at least three counties arrested in Dublin

The police said a man from Burkeville who had been sought by authorities for over three weeks in connection with the theft of lottery tickets from a gas station in Botetourt County was brought into custody on Tuesday in the town of Dublin by state, federal, and local law enforcement.

Based on news coverage of the extensive search operation, which included a police pursuit that ended with a wreck in Craig County on August 11 and sightings a week later in the Brush Mountain area of Montgomery County, a resident of Dublin called the police after he saw someone who matched the description of Shawn Michael Tolbert.

A Dublin police officer who was driving an unmarked vehicle also saw the individual. Tolbert, 42, who was living in a bus in a backyard, was placed under arrest by a special operations team from the Virginia State Police. The arrest was announced in a press release that was sent by the Dublin police department on Tuesday evening. Tolbert is sought for several charges in at least three different counties, the most serious of which are the two counts of felony assault on a police officer that he is accused of committing in Craig County.

Additional information was not made public.
