Montgomery County Public Schools encourages families to fill out free and reduced lunch application

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. – The Montgomery County Public Schools are encouraging the families of its students to submit applications for free and reduced lunches.

According to the school system, the number of kids who need assistance has an effect on the amount of money that the district receives. This, in turn, makes it possible for children who are in need to receive their lunches free of charge.

According to MCPS, an average of fewer families than normal have submitted their applications this year.

No student will be denied access to food, but those who do not pay for their meals may end up with a bill that they cannot pay off on their own.

“I would encourage anyone to fill it out,” MCPS Director of Communications Brenda Drake said. “It doesn’t hurt anything and as a matter of fact, all it stands to do is to potentially benefit both the family and the school division.”
