Roanoke relies on daily votes to remain number one for the Best Destination for Fall Colors title

Roanoke, Virginia – Roanoke has been nominated for the title of Best Destination for Fall Colors by USA Today 10Best, and the city is encouraging residents and visitors alike to help secure the win. The competition features 20 destinations across the country, with voting open for the next four weeks.

Currently Ranked Number One

According to the reports, Roanoke is currently ranked #1 with strong competition from other scenic locations. Rounding out the top ten are the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Hot Springs in Arkansas, the Blue Ridge Mountains in Georgia, Potter-Tioga in Pennsylvania, the White Mountains of New Hampshire, the Laurel Highlands in Pennsylvania, the Adirondacks in New York, Stowe in Vermont, and the Berkshires in Massachusetts. Participants can vote once per day online, making daily support vital to maintaining the lead.

Fall Beauty Along the Appalachian Trail

As the largest city along the Appalachian Trail, Roanoke offers countless opportunities to enjoy the season’s vibrant foliage. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore over 1,000 miles of trails, including the famous McAfee Knob hike, or take to the mountain biking paths at Carvins Cove. According to Visit Virginia’s Blue Ridge, peak fall colors typically arrive in October and last into early November, providing an extended window for leaf-peeping adventures.

City officials and tourism advocates are hopeful that with consistent community participation, Roanoke will secure the top spot and highlight its natural beauty on a national stage.
