Roanoke gasoline prices see an increase; national average remains steady

Roanoke, Virginia – In the most recent survey by GasBuddy, it has been reported that the average gasoline prices in Roanoke have seen an increase of 2.6 cents per gallon over the last week, putting the average price at $3.33 per gallon as of Monday. This price represents an increase of 10.4 cents per gallon from a month ago, and, on the other hand, it is 62 cents per gallon less than what it was a year ago.

An assessment of the 155 stations in Roanoke by GasBuddy revealed that the prices ranged from $3.09 per gallon to $3.49 per gallon on Sunday, a difference of 40 cents. Looking at a wider perspective, the state’s gasoline prices fluctuated between $2.75 per gallon and $4.29 per gallon, providing a much larger gap of $1.54 per gallon.

Across the United States, the national average price for gasoline has followed a similar upward trend with an increase of 2.1 cents per gallon within the past week, positioning it at an average of $3.55 per gallon as of Monday. This figure denotes a marginal drop of 0.4 cents per gallon from the price a month ago and is 78.0 cents per gallon lower compared to the same time a year ago. This data has been derived from over 11 million weekly price reports, covering more than 150,000 gas stations nationwide.

Patrick De Haan, the head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, remarked on the stability of the national average, which has maintained within the same 10 cent range since April. He stated, “It’s been a remarkably quiet summer for gas prices, which have been far less active than normal.” Despite this relative stability, De Haan expressed concerns about the influence of high temperatures on tropical systems, particularly in the Atlantic and Caribbean, and their potential to affect gasoline prices. He ended his comments by saying, “For now, I don’t expect much change in the toss up that has been gas prices for weeks on end. But, with gasoline demand now hitting its summer high, there remain some risks that could disturb gas prices in a significant way before summer’s end.”
