Roanoke County economic development director recognized as one of the top fifty in North America
Roanoke, Virginia – Roanoke County is celebrating a major professional achievement for one of its own. Megan Baker, CEcD and Director of Economic Development for Roanoke County, has been recognized as one of the Top 50 Economic Developers in North America by Consultant Connect, a firm that links economic development leaders with site selection consultants to share best practices and strengthen industry networks.
The annual recognition highlights professionals who demonstrate innovative approaches, strategic leadership, and a tangible impact on community growth through economic initiatives. Those chosen for the honor are nominated by their peers and celebrated for driving investment, supporting job creation, and fostering local success stories.
“I’m honored to be recognized among so many talented professionals,” said Baker. “This recognition reflects the collaboration and momentum we’ve built in Roanoke County to attract investment and create opportunity.”
Since assuming her role in October 2022, Baker has led Roanoke County’s economic efforts with notable success. Under her guidance, the county has seen $144 million in new project announcements and the creation of 1,300 jobs, drawing major investments from companies like Wells Fargo, Mack Trucks, Southern Team Hyundai, and Vistar Eye Center.
“Megan’s leadership has brought a new level of energy and focus to our economic development efforts,” said Roanoke County Administrator Richard Caywood. “This recognition is well deserved, and we’re proud to have her representing Roanoke County.”
