One dead, one injured Monday afternoon when a vehicle left the road on I-664 north near Hampton

HAMPTON, Virginia — Virginia State Police say that one man died and another was hurt when their car went off Interstate 664 in Hampton on Monday afternoon.

State police said the one-car accident happened on I-664 north near Power Plant Parkway at 5:15 p.m.

From what they know so far, a 2007 Lexus E350 sedan went off the road and hit a construction barrel. Then it went off the road and into a ditch, where it hit a few trees before stopping.

Alvin Lamar Emanuel, 38, of Suffolk, was in the front seat. He died when the car hit the ground. The state police said that he wasn’t wearing his seatbelt when the crash happened.

Joseph L. Locklear Jr., the driver, was taken to Riverside Regional Hospital to be treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.

The crash is still being looked into.

The state police said that they will talk to the Commonwealth’s Attorney about any possible charges.
