Ivy Road reopens to traffic after successful overnight repairs

Culpeper, Virginia – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has reopened U.S. Route 250 (Ivy Road) between the U.S. 250 Bypass and Charlottesville’s western city limits after completing significant road repairs overnight. Following a drainage pipe failure that damaged the roadway, crews worked continuously to restore the route, clearing all lane closures on Ivy Road and the U.S. 29/250 Bypass, allowing full traffic flow by this morning.

The road closure began late Thursday night after the failure of a drainage pipe beneath the road caused structural damage that required immediate attention. VDOT crews and contractors promptly responded, working all day Friday to fix the damage. In addition to repairing the road, VDOT coordinated with utility companies due to the presence of gas, water, and fiber optic lines located near the damaged pipe. This collaboration allowed for the safe repair and repaving of the area without disturbing essential utility services.

Residents and commuters have been encouraged to stay updated on road conditions through VDOT’s various information channels. The VDOT Culpeper District shares frequent updates on both its Facebook page and Twitter page @VaDOTCulp. Additionally, Virginians can report any hazardous road conditions through VDOT’s 24-hour Customer Service Center, accessible online at my.vdot.virginia.gov or by calling 800-FOR-ROAD (367-7623).

For real-time traffic conditions, the public can check the 511Virginia website, which features a statewide network of traffic cameras and up-to-date travel information. The VDOT 511 mobile app also provides these resources, as does calling 511 from any phone within Virginia.
