Son shot his father to death in the driveway before injuring his mother just because he had enough of his father forcing him to “make something of himself and get a job;” arrested

The 23-year-old identified as Joseph V. has been arrested and charged with the murder of his father and the attempted murder of his mother, following a fatal altercation allegedly spurred by his father’s demands for him to secure employment.

On the night of December 7, 2024, police were called to the family’s residence, where they discovered a distressing scene. The 63-year-old father, identified as Marvin V., was found deceased in the driveway from a gunshot wound. Inside the house, the 58-year-old mother, identified as Susan V., was critically injured but stable after also being shot. She informed the responding officers that their son, Joseph, was the shooter.

During his arrest and subsequent interrogation, Joseph confessed to the shootings. He told deputies that his actions were in response to his father reproaching him over his excessive video gaming and lack of employment. “He said his father was upset with him about spending the majority of his time playing video games and ‘riding his ass’ about making something of himself and getting a job,” deputies relayed.
