Man, who threatened a 3-month pregnant woman he would make sure she didn’t have the baby before beating her unconscious by punching her in the head and stomach, was sentenced
Texas – In a deeply disturbing case in Texas, a 35-year-old man, identified as A. Gutierrez, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after brutally beating a woman who was 3 months pregnant, threatening her life and the life of her unborn child. Gutierrez was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and the judge handed down the lengthy sentence, citing the gravity of the assault and Gutierrez’s prior history of violence.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, this wasn’t Gutierrez’s first conviction. In 2016, he was convicted of continuous family violence and served five years in prison. The new sentence stems from a horrific attack in January 2024 that left the pregnant woman unconscious and in need of emergency medical attention. Police were dispatched to Gutierrez’s property after a 911 call abruptly disconnected. When officers arrived, they found a woman inside the RV suffering from extensive injuries. First responders documented severe injuries to her face, chest, and stomach — the latter being of particular concern due to her early-stage pregnancy.
The woman, who has not been publicly identified, recounted the chilling details of the attack. She told authorities that Gutierrez became enraged during an argument and locked her inside the RV, threatening that he would make sure she didn’t have the baby before launching the brutal assault. He pulled her by the hair and punched her repeatedly in the face and stomach — targeting the unborn child. But the violence didn’t stop there. Gutierrez then grabbed a 10-inch kitchen knife and held it to the woman’s neck, threatening to kill her. Although he eventually threw the knife aside, he resumed the beating, this time using his fists, knees, and feet until the victim lost consciousness.
Once the woman regained consciousness, she found a brief opportunity to call 911. She managed to provide the address before hanging up — a critical moment that led officers directly to the scene. In the meantime, Gutierrez had reportedly stepped outside the RV to dispose of evidence, according to the DA’s office. When confronted, Gutierrez attempted to cover his tracks by coercing the woman into lying. He told her to claim she had been attacked by two unknown women in order to avoid getting into trouble. Despite the fabricated story, police quickly uncovered the truth. Officers found clear signs of a violent altercation inside the RV, including broken glass and bloodstains, along with the kitchen knife used in the threat. Gutierrez was arrested on the scene and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, among other charges related to family violence.
Assistant District Attorneys A. Andreski and R. Porter prosecuted the case and emphasized the importance of holding abusers accountable before the violence escalates further. “This sentence ensures that this victim and her child are protected from further violence,” they stated, “and demonstrates our commitment to holding domestic abusers accountable.”
Under Texas law, Gutierrez must serve at least half of his 25-year sentence before becoming eligible for parole. As the case closes in court, the DA’s office hopes the outcome sends a powerful message about the consequences of domestic violence, especially when it endangers not just one life — but two.
