2-year-old boy desperately cried for help as his mother violently dragged him by the hair around the home in a video that went live on social media
Wisconsin – In a disturbing incident out of Wisconsin that highlights the darker sides of social media and parental abuse, a mother has been sentenced for physically abusing her young son on a video that went live on social media. The 24-year-old mother, identified as N. Hunt, faced the consequences of her actions in court and was handed down a sentence.
On August 24, 2023, Hunt was captured in a distressing video that quickly spread across various social media platforms, showing her violently pulling her 2-year-old son’s hair. The footage, which triggered widespread outrage and concern, showed Hunt aggressively tugging the child’s hair while he desperately cried for help. This heinous act took place in the presence of another woman, identified as A. Burns, who appeared to do nothing to prevent the abuse.
Judge J. Sequin sentenced Hunt to one year in jail and three years of probation after Hunt pleaded guilty to one count of child abuse—intentionally causing harm. Hunt has been credited with 313 days already served, and an additional two-year prison sentence has been stayed, contingent upon her adherence to probation terms. The abuse came to light when local law enforcement agencies were alerted about the viral video by colleagues from other law enforcement agencies. The video showed a disturbing scene where Hunt, in a fit of anger, pulled the toddler violently while Burns held him in her lap, and then violently dragged the boy by the hair around the apartment while he was crying for help.
In response to the viral video, authorities swiftly took action. The officers’ investigation led to the arrest of both women. While Hunt faced charges related to child abuse, Burns encountered legal trouble for assaulting a police officer during her arrest. The legal proceedings concluded with Hunt receiving a sentence that reflects the gravity of her actions. Additionally, Burns was convicted of battery to a police officer and received three years on probation. These sentences underscore the community and judicial system’s commitment to protecting children and upholding the law.
As part of her sentence, Hunt is required to adhere to strict probation conditions aimed at preventing further harm. These include no contact orders with Burns and any minors, mandatory completion of a mental health assessment, a parenting course, and maintaining full employment. These measures are intended to facilitate her rehabilitation and ensure she does not reoffend. As Hunt begins her sentence, the community hopes for healing for the young victim and a reassessment of social values concerning the care and protection of children.
