Anonymous player from Maryland becomes a multimillionaire after buying winning Powerball ticket in Richmond

Richmond, Virginia – A lucky Powerball player from Maryland has claimed a $2 million prize from the October 25, 2025 drawing after purchasing their ticket in Virginia. Choosing to remain anonymous, the winner used a valuable Power Play option to double their winnings.

The winning ticket was sold at the Wawa convenience store located at 7316 Forest Hill Avenue in Richmond. It matched the first five numbers—2, 12, 22, 39, and 67—missing only the Powerball number 15. Normally, such a match would earn a $1 million prize, but by paying an extra dollar for the Power Play, the prize was doubled to $2 million.

Virginia law allows lottery winners of $1 million or more to remain anonymous, and the winner exercised that right, meaning the Virginia Lottery will not release their identity.

Adding to the celebration, the Wawa retailer that sold the ticket is also a winner. Retailers receive a $10,000 bonus for selling a ticket worth $2 million.

Powerball drawings take place three times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays—at 10:59 p.m. The odds of hitting the jackpot by matching all six numbers are 1 in 292.2 million, while the odds of winning any prize are 1 in 25.

The Power Play option, which costs an additional dollar per play, multiplies non-jackpot winnings by 2, 3, 4, 5, or 10 times, offering players a chance to significantly boost their non-jackpot prizes. In this case, it paid off with an extra million dollars.

Powerball tickets can be purchased at licensed retailers across Virginia or through authorized online platforms. More information about the game and its rules is available at the Virginia Lottery’s official website.

This win marks another major prize for Virginia and highlights how even near-jackpot matches can lead to life-changing winnings—especially with the Power Play add-on.
