Roanoke County announces Thanksgiving week closures and adjusted service schedules

Roanoke, Virginia – In preparation for the Thanksgiving holiday, Roanoke County has announced early closures and service adjustments that will impact residents throughout the week of November 24, 2025. The majority of Roanoke County government offices will close at noon on Wednesday, November 26, and remain closed through Friday, November 28.

Trash Collection Adjusted for the Holiday

Trash collection will follow a revised schedule to accommodate the Thanksgiving break. Residents should pay close attention to these changes:

  • Monday and Tuesday routes will be serviced on Monday, November 24

  • Wednesday routes will be collected on Tuesday, November 25

  • Thursday routes will be picked up on Wednesday, November 26

Officials ask that containers be placed at the curb on the appropriate day and left out until emptied. While the Solid Waste Administrative staff will remain available by phone and email until 5 p.m. the day before Thanksgiving, collections will not take place beyond Wednesday.

Parks and Recreation Schedule

The Parks, Recreation and Tourism administrative offices and the Brambleton Center will close at noon on Wednesday, November 26. That day, Green Ridge Recreation Center will remain open from 5:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

On Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 27, all Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed.
On Friday, November 28, administrative offices and the Brambleton Center will remain closed, while Green Ridge Recreation Center will reopen with extended hours from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Library Closures and Public Transit Updates

All Roanoke County Public Libraries will close at noon on Wednesday and reopen on Saturday, November 29. The Mt. Pleasant Library will also follow this same schedule.

CORTRAN services will stop operating at noon on Wednesday, November 26, and remain offline through Friday.

For those planning to visit McAfee Knob, the trailhead shuttle will run Friday, November 28 through Sunday, November 30.

Circuit Court Closure

The Roanoke County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office will close at noon on Wednesday and remain closed through the rest of the week.

Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and contact the appropriate departments with questions before the Thanksgiving holiday begins.
