37-year-old woman, who struck her 42-year-old husband as he was “trying to run away from a toxic scene” with her vehicle and then claimed “she never meant to kill him,” was charged
Texas – In a shocking case out of Texas, a 37-year-old woman, identified as A. Gonzalez-Morelos, is now facing a first-degree murder charge after she struck and killed her 42-year-old husband, identified as L. Mendoza, with her SUV during a heated domestic dispute. Though she later insisted she “never meant to kill him,” investigators say her actions were deliberate and devastating.
Gonzalez-Morelos has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of her husband. The fatal incident took place in the early morning hours of Sunday, following what police described as a volatile argument between the couple. According to police, Gonzalez-Morelos had just returned home around 2 a.m. after attending a party and admitted to being drunk when the confrontation began. Inside their home, the verbal dispute escalated, with their children reportedly overhearing the argument from another room.
Police Officer D. Slack said Mendoza left the house on foot in an apparent attempt to get some distance from the conflict. “As far as we know, there were just some marital issues going on,” Slack stated. “He exited, and she followed.” Mendoza was walking along a street, heading toward the nearby store where his car was parked, when the situation took a deadly turn.
At approximately 3:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area following reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle. A witness told police they saw a black SUV veer off the road, jump the curb, and hit Mendoza as he walked through a parking lot. After impact, the SUV reportedly fled the scene. When first responders arrived, they found Mendoza seriously injured. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite emergency efforts, he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities say the description of the vehicle given by witnesses matched Gonzalez-Morelos’ black SUV. Investigators quickly traced the incident back to the couple’s earlier argument and contacted Gonzalez-Morelos. Rather than denying involvement, she surrendered to police and reportedly confessed to striking her husband with the vehicle. She told investigators that although she did hit him, she didn’t intend to kill him. According to police, Gonzalez-Morelos said she only “wanted to hit him”—not end his life. Her admission echoed another chilling claim from those close to Mendoza. One family member reportedly told police that Mendoza had simply been “trying to run away from a toxic scene” when he was killed.
Following her confession, Gonzalez-Morelos was taken into custody and remains held. The case has since been handed over to the District Attorney’s Office, where prosecutors are preparing to move forward with formal proceedings. Authorities have not yet announced a court date or bond decision. The murder charge carries the possibility of life imprisonment if Gonzalez-Morelos is convicted. As investigators continue to piece together the full context of the fatal encounter, one fact remains beyond dispute: a man who tried to walk away from a volatile moment ended up dead, and the woman who followed him now faces the most serious charge the law can offer.
