2-and-5-year-old brothers drowned to death after their mother, who insisted she was sober, left them unattended at a residential pool while she got high at home; mother arrested

Mississippi – In a disturbing incident in Mississippi, a 36-year-old mother, identified as A. Goldman, is facing criminal charges after her two young sons, ages 2 and 5, tragically drowned in a residential pool while she was getting high at their home. Authorities say Goldman left the children unattended on Monday evening, leading to a devastating outcome that has left an entire community in grief.

Goldman has been arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia, and police say additional charges are likely as the investigation continues. The drowning occurred around 5:30 p.m. According to Police Chief D. Bever, first responders arrived to find both children unresponsive beside the pool. Emergency crews attempted life-saving measures and rushed the boys to a local hospital. Despite efforts to revive them, both were pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The boys’ mother, Goldman, was reportedly at the residence at the time of the incident but not supervising her children. Authorities say she was using drugs while the boys gained access to the pool area. At this stage, it remains unclear exactly how the children ended up in the water, or how long they were left unsupervised before being discovered. Goldman was immediately taken into custody, and police confirmed she had illegal substances and drug paraphernalia in her possession at the time. The specifics of the controlled substance have not been disclosed publicly.

The incident comes just months after Goldman made a public declaration on social media claiming she was drug-free. In a now widely shared social media post, she wrote: “PSA this is the first and last time I will say this, I do not do drugs. I don’t want to do drugs. I have not done drugs in over a decade. I have overcome things some people could never so I would appreciate it… to stop trying to slander my name just because I don’t wanna be with you.” Despite that public statement, police now allege that Goldman was under the influence at the time of her children’s drowning—directly contradicting her prior claims and intensifying public outrage.

The drowning deaths of the two young brothers have sparked both sorrow and anger in the city, with many residents questioning how such negligence could result in such devastating loss. “This is an unimaginable tragedy that has deeply affected our community,” said Chief Bever in an official statement. “Our hearts are with the family, friends, and first responders impacted by this heartbreaking loss. We ask the community to keep them in your thoughts and prayers as our investigators continue to seek answers.” The county deputy coroner confirmed the official cause of death as drowning. Authorities are still piecing together the timeline of events leading up to the incident, and further forensic testing is underway.

As the criminal case moves forward, Goldman remains in police custody, and investigators say she could face more serious charges, including child endangerment or manslaughter, once the full circumstances are established. Anyone with information relevant to the case is urged to contact the police department at 228-497-2486 or Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers at 877-787-5898. For now, a mother sits in custody, a community mourns, and two innocent lives are gone—lost to a moment of negligence that may carry lifelong consequences.
