EdgeCore selects Louisa County for major digital infrastructure investment creating new tech jobs
Charlottesville, Virginia – Governor Glenn Youngkin today announced a landmark investment by EdgeCore Digital Infrastructure, which will pour more than $17 billion into Louisa County to build a state-of-the-art data center campus. This single development marks one of the largest capital investments in the state’s history and pushes Virginia’s total capital expenditures for new business locations and expansions to $121 billion since Governor Youngkin assumed office.
EdgeCore Digital Infrastructure specializes in constructing and operating advanced data centers for major cloud and internet companies. Their Louisa County campus is expected to support the rapidly growing demand for digital infrastructure while creating new job opportunities and expanding local economic resources.
“Virginia is the world capital for the infrastructure on which the internet and the entire global economy runs,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin. “From the spine of the internet running through Ashburn to the transatlantic cables that connect in Virginia Beach, the entire Commonwealth is engaged in supporting the technology which runs the world. We are proud to welcome Edgecore to Central Virginia where their $17 billion investment will create jobs and fund vital public resources.”
The data center will further solidify Virginia’s role in the global tech ecosystem, which already boasts a dense concentration of fiber routes and major digital infrastructure. This move also underscores the growing confidence tech firms have in Virginia’s workforce, regulatory environment, and long-term economic stability.
Officials expect the Louisa County community to see significant economic benefits not only through job creation but also through public funding contributions that result from the project’s scale.
The announcement serves as a testament to the Commonwealth’s success in attracting top-tier technology investments and reinforces its position as a central hub for digital connectivity and cloud innovation.
