Mother died after her son grabbed her from behind, threw her on the floor and started beating her before smashing her head twice with a brick; man charged

Florida – In a gruesome incident in Florida, a 36-year-old man, identified as R. Moore was arrested after he murdered his mother by striking her with a brick and then chillingly reported the act to authorities himself. Moore is now facing charges of premeditated first-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence in the death of his mother, identified as S. Levy.

The ordeal unfolded in the early hours of December 9, when Moore made a distressing call to the sheriff’s office. According to the probable cause affidavit, he began by referencing lethal injection, before ominously declaring, “There’s a dead body here” and “I put her down.” He identified the victim as his mother and himself as the perpetrator. Responding officers arrived at Levy’s residence, where they encountered a grim scene. They discovered Levy’s body under blood-soaked blankets, showing signs of severe trauma and in an advanced state of decomposition, suggesting she had been dead for some time.

The horrifying act was captured on a surveillance camera installed within the home. The footage detailed a brutal six-minute attack that occurred around 3:30 p.m. on December 6. The video shows Moore attacking his mother from behind, throwing her to the tile floor, and then proceeding to beat her head with his fists and strangle her. After rendering his mother motionless, Moore is seen retrieving a concrete brick and using it to deliver two fatal blows to her head. Following the murder, Moore took a shovel and destroyed the surveillance camera in an apparent attempt to eliminate evidence.

The investigation revealed disturbing details about the relationship between Moore and his mother leading up to the killing. A friend of Levy recounted that she had advised Levy to secure her bedroom with a lock after a previous domestic violence incident involving Moore. During that altercation, he had allegedly hit her and threatened her with brass knuckles.

Moore’s sister also provided insights into the situation. She told police that when she was unable to contact her mother, Moore assured her that everything had been “taken care of” and cryptically mentioned that he would be “put down” by lethal injection. Further probing into the family’s affairs revealed that Levy had recently inherited a substantial sum of money, which she intended to leave in part to Moore upon her death.

During his post-arrest interview, Moore’s responses were erratic. He mentioned living a “normal free life now” until he received what he believed was rightfully his—a trust fund. He also made spontaneous statements asserting his “constitutional right” to lethal injection before requesting an attorney.

Moore is currently held without bond. He is scheduled for a pretrial detention hearing soon, where the courts will deliberate further on his detention status pending trial. This case has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the tragic potential of domestic violence and the devastating impact of mental health issues that go unaddressed.

This case not only sheds light on the personal tragedy of the Levy family but also underscores the broader societal issues of mental health, inheritance disputes, and the consequences of inadequate intervention in domestic violence scenarios. The community and the nation watch as the justice system navigates this complex and heartbreaking case.
