Roanoke City Council officially appoints Valmarie H. Turner as the new City Manager

Roanoke, Virginia – Roanoke City Council has officially appointed Ms. Valmarie H. Turner as the new City Manager, a decision finalized on Monday, December 2, 2024. With over 30 years of experience in local government, Turner brings a wealth of expertise to her new role, particularly in areas such as community and economic development, social and human services, and public improvement initiatives.

Turner’s most recent role was as Deputy City Manager for the City of Fairfax, Virginia, where she also served as Acting City Manager. Prior to that, she worked as Assistant County Administrator in Loudoun County, showcasing her extensive leadership background across various municipal operations.

In a statement about her new role, Turner expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity, saying, “I look forward to working with City staff and City Council to implement its vision for the City of Roanoke. My early priorities will be meeting with Council members, engaging with City staff, and building relationships with business and non-profit partners in the City and region and with the other local governments in the Roanoke Valley. I am excited about this opportunity to serve the residents of Roanoke and appreciate the confidence that City Council has shown in me.”

Her appointment marks a significant step for the City of Roanoke, as Turner prepares to begin her tenure in mid-January. As City Manager, she will lead efforts to achieve Roanoke’s goals and strengthen its ties with the surrounding community.
