Roanoke County launches free septic pump-out initiative for homeowners

Roanoke County, Virginia – Homeowners in Roanoke County have the opportunity to benefit from a complimentary septic tank pump-out, a step towards enhancing the water quality in their residences.

This initiative is an effort by the Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission, aiming to assist low-income homeowners with septic tank maintenance, a service that can otherwise amount to a cost of $500.

The endeavor is financially supported by the Virginia Environmental Endowment, which will subsidize approximately 50 such services throughout the county.

The commission’s regional planner, Gabriel Irigaray, emphasized the importance of regular septic tank maintenance. He remarked, “When you have a tight budget and have other home repair and maintenance needs, sometimes septic systems are kind of out of sight out of mind, so you might forget about it. This is just a way for folks to not have to worry about this maintenance need.”

Plans are underway for the commission to extend this service to more regions in the ensuing period.
