Roanoke Fire-EMS responded to Melrose Towers Fire; one person hospitalized

Roanoke, Virginia – One person has been admitted to the hospital following a fire incident at Melrose Towers Apartments on Sunday morning.

The Roanoke Fire-EMS team was dispatched after receiving reports of a blaze on the building’s 9th floor, approximately at 5:30 a.m.

Fire personnel have indicated that the origin of the fire was a trash chute. Fortunately, the building’s sprinkler system activated promptly, confining the fire to the trash room and preventing any further spread throughout the facility.

The fire response team ensured the 8th and 9th floors were cleared of smoke and took additional measures to inspect the trash rooms in other parts of the building.

The individual transported to the hospital sustained minor injuries. Currently, the investigation into the fire’s cause is ongoing.
