Roanoke gas prices climb 7.4 cents in the last week

Roanoke, Virginia – Gasoline prices in Roanoke have seen a 7.4 cents per gallon increase over the last week, now averaging at $3.30 per gallon, according to a survey of 155 stations in Roanoke conducted by GasBuddy.

These prices are 8.6 cents higher than they were a month ago, yet 83.1 cents lower per gallon when compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, the national average diesel price saw a slight increase of 0.1 cents in the last week and currently stands at $3.80 per gallon.

GasBuddy’s price reports indicate that the lowest gasoline price in Roanoke was recorded at $3.06 per gallon this past Sunday, while the highest was $3.89 per gallon, a variation of 83 cents per gallon. In the state, the least expensive gasoline was priced at $2.79 per gallon and the highest was $4.29 per gallon on Sunday, indicating a price difference of $1.50 per gallon.

The national average gasoline price has risen by 3.4 cents per gallon in the past week, with today’s average standing at $3.53 per gallon. The national average has dropped 1.6 cents per gallon from last month and is 97.5 cents per gallon lower than the same time last year, as per GasBuddy data drawn from more than 11 million weekly price reports across over 150,000 gas stations nationwide.

“With oil prices reaching $75 per barrel last week, a level unseen in recent months, the national average gasoline price similarly experienced upward pressure, with more than half the states in the nation witnessing a rise in gas prices last week,” explained Patrick De Haan, the head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

De Haan predicts that, while price increases may continue into the current week, they are likely to be relatively moderate, with the national average anticipated to stay within the $3.50-$3.60 range that we’ve been observing since April for the upcoming week and potentially into the following week as well. He noted that economic data has been exerting more pressure than usual on gas prices, along with production cuts by OPEC playing a significant role.
