Roanoke gears up for the 22nd annual Star City Motor Madness

Roanoke, Virginia – For those with an affinity for cruising or gaining knowledge about vintage vehicles, the Star City Motor Madness (SCMM) returns for its 22nd edition of the ‘Cruise-in Car Show.’

The inaugural event is scheduled to commence on June 23rd, beginning at 5 p.m. with its ‘Cruise-In.’ This gathering provides an opportunity for automotive enthusiasts to display their valued trucks, motorcycles, cars, and vintage models on Roanoke’s principal thoroughfare.

The event welcomes all cars classified as “classic” or of “special interest,” criteria determined by their ability to evoke nostalgia, trigger memories, or actualize fantasies. An array of vehicles will parade along Williamson Road, extending from Hershberger Road at the northern end to Orange Avenue. This spectacle will provide the residents of Roanoke with a visual treat, accompanied by food, entertainment, and more.

Following the ‘Cruise-In,’ SCMM will commence its ‘Car & Truck Show’ at 10 a.m. on Saturday, featuring a range of 300 vehicles, encompassing antiques, hot rods, and motorcycles. This show is to be held at multiple locations including Jefferson Street between Campbell and Elm Avenue, Franklin Road between Jefferson Street, and Williamson Road at Elmwood Park.

Roanoke’s Williamson Road, renowned as a favoured cruising route during the 1950s and 60s, played host to the inaugural event in 2002, which came into existence due to the efforts of two businessmen and car enthusiasts with an aim to raise funds for charities. It rapidly became one of Virginia’s largest automotive events, drawing approximately 2,000 vehicles and 8,000 spectators.

This annual car, truck, and motorcycle cruise and show serve to highlight the fervour for automobiles across Star City while generating funds for the Virginia Museum of Transportation and other non-profit organizations.

Further details pertaining to registration fees, cruise routes, parking, and roadblocks can be found on the Star City Motor Madness website.
