Deadline to submit nominations for Roanoke’s Citizen of the Year approaches
Roanoke, Virginia – As the deadline to submit nominations for Roanoke’s Citizen of the Year approaches, the Roanoke City Council is reminding residents to nominate individuals who have shown extraordinary dedication to the community. The nomination period is open now through Friday, November 21, giving citizens ample time to put forward deserving names for this prestigious honor.
Who Can Be Nominated
The award is open to all Roanoke residents, with the exception of previous award winners and current elected officials. Importantly, anyone who is running for public office in the year of nomination will be disqualified or must withdraw from consideration.
To qualify, nominees must meet several strict requirements. First, they must have demonstrated an “above average volunteer or philanthropic dedication to the community.” Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of three years of volunteer service, and if their efforts are related to their job, they must have gone significantly above and beyond their expected professional duties. To be eligible, nominees must also sign a waiver allowing their name and information about their work to be made public.
How to Nominate
Nominations can be submitted online or by contacting the City Clerk’s Office. Forms and additional information are available through the office of Cecelia F. McCoy, City Clerk. Submissions can be mailed, emailed, or faxed to:
