Virginia launches Road to Readiness School Performance and Support Framework Resource Hub to enhance transparency

Richmond, Virginia – Governor Glenn Youngkin recently launched the Virginia Department of Education’s (VDOE) Road to Readiness School Performance and Support Framework Resource Hub. This comprehensive online platform aims to enhance transparency, offering families, students, educators, and communities across Virginia access to data on school performance and resources to support educational improvements. This initiative is accompanied by Governor Youngkin’s proposal to increase educational funding to address school performance needs and further student readiness.

Governor Youngkin’s Commitment to Enhanced School Funding

Alongside the Resource Hub’s launch, Governor Youngkin announced plans to allocate at least an additional $50 million in his upcoming 2025 budget. This funding will be directed toward supporting public schools across Virginia, particularly those facing challenges in performance. The proposed funding will help expand resources available through the Office of School Quality, strengthening support mechanisms that contribute to improved educational standards and student success.

“This new Road to Readiness embodies our commitment to high expectations, transparency, and prioritizing resources to those students and schools most in need,” Governor Youngkin stated. “Our School Performance Framework and this new resource hub reaffirm our commitment to empowering our teachers, partnering with our parents, strengthening our schools, and, most importantly, preparing every student for success.”

Supporting Schools in Need: A Data-Driven Approach

The Road to Readiness Resource Hub, developed as part of the School Performance and Support Framework, represents a data-driven approach to school improvement. By adopting rigorous standards, the Virginia Board of Education, VDOE, and Governor’s office have committed to assessing educational performance transparently. Secretary of Education Aimee Guidera emphasized, “The Road to Readiness provides transparent, data-driven insights into school performance and delivers targeted resources to those public schools most in need.”

The Framework utilizes data to identify gaps and improvement areas, enabling schools and communities to understand student progress in critical learning areas. This data offers families and educators specific roadmaps for supporting student growth. The $5 billion investment in public education, as noted by Secretary Guidera, forms a strong foundation that now includes actionable information through the Hub.

Virginia’s School Performance and Support Framework

The Virginia Board of Education officially adopted the School Performance and Support Framework in August 2024, setting the stage for a new era of educational transparency and accountability in Virginia. This Framework is designed to equip educators and school leaders with the necessary resources to target specific areas of student development, performance, and school support. The newly launched Resource Hub offers tools for families to support their children’s learning journey and enables educators to guide schools toward improvements with a clear understanding of each school’s specific needs.

Grace Creasey, President of the Virginia Board of Education, remarked, “This Framework, shaped by extensive public engagement and best practices, provides a comprehensive understanding of how each public school serves every student. It enables us to offer targeted support—through training, assistance, coaching, and financial resources—to schools and divisions that need it most, ensuring every student is on track for success.”

A Collaborative Milestone for Virginia’s Education

The implementation of the Resource Hub marks a collaborative milestone for Virginia’s educational system. Developed over more than two years with extensive community engagement, the Hub represents a joint effort among families, educators, and the government to foster a supportive educational environment for all students. Superintendent of Public Instruction Lisa Coons underscored the value of the Resource Hub: “We are conducting trainings, sharing best practices, and publishing resources and roadmaps to help educators and parents navigate their students to success through this process.”

The Hub itself is a centralized platform that offers families insights into how their schools are performing, guidance for supporting academic progress, and tailored resources for each school community. Through this platform, educators and school leaders can access practical tools for assessing and meeting student needs.

Focused Support for Virginia’s Educational Needs

The first year of data collection for the new Framework began with the 2024-2025 school year. The information collected will allow educators and communities to assess the academic growth and readiness of Virginia students. Data presented through the Hub during this year will be available for analysis and focus purposes but will not determine school ratings. Instead, the aim is to foster understanding and collaboration across schools, parents, and communities to achieve positive, data-driven changes within the same academic year.

The VDOE plans to publish formal reports of the 2024-2025 results in the fall of 2025. Until then, the preliminary data offers essential insights for families and educators who wish to engage proactively in their children’s education. By allowing this data to be publicly accessible, the VDOE is reinforcing its commitment to transparency, fostering trust in the state’s educational system, and enabling the community to play an active role in school improvement efforts.

A New Era of Educational Empowerment

Virginia’s Road to Readiness Resource Hub represents a significant step forward for the state’s education system, embodying a commitment to continuous improvement and collaboration. By investing in resources that empower teachers, involve parents, and support students, the state is creating a more equitable and transparent educational experience. This Hub, combined with additional funding and a focus on transparency, underscores Virginia’s dedication to building a robust educational framework that benefits students, educators, and communities alike.
