Newport News man identified and arrested in Roanoke County robbery case
Roanoke, Virginia – A man accused of robbing a Roanoke County credit union branch is now in custody after authorities located him hours after the incident.
Christopher Brian Havens, 43, of Newport News, Virginia, has been identified by investigators as the suspect in Wednesday afternoon’s bank robbery. Havens was found later that evening in Marion, Virginia, where he was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service. Officials said charges are pending as the investigation continues.
Havens is currently being held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority’s Abingdon facility.
Bank robbery reported on Electric Road
According to the Roanoke County Police Department, officers responded around 3:00 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a robbery at the Member One Federal Credit Union branch located at 2310 Electric Road. A caller reported that a suspect had just robbed the bank and fled the scene on foot.
Security footage captured images of a white male suspect described as approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a heavy salt-and-pepper beard and glasses. He was seen wearing a Vans-branded baseball cap, a long-sleeve button-up shirt, and jeans.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported during the robbery. Investigators also stated that no weapon was displayed and that there is no credible threat to the community at this time.
Roanoke County officials expressed appreciation to those who assisted in the swift identification and capture of the suspect. They thanked members of the media, local citizens, the Town of Marion Police Department, and the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office for their cooperation and support.
