Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office encourages teen drivers to make safe and responsible choices on the road during Teen Driving Awareness Month
Roanoke, Virginia – As part of Teen Driving Awareness Month, the Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office is joining local families, schools, and community partners to highlight the importance of safe habits behind the wheel. The annual campaign serves as a reminder that early education and good driving decisions can save lives.
Road Safety Starts with Responsible Choices
The campaign comes at a time when motor vehicle crashes remain one of the leading causes of injury among teens nationwide. With many young drivers taking the wheel for the first time, law enforcement and educators are urging families to take a more active role in promoting smart driving choices.
Teens are reminded that simple decisions like wearing a seatbelt, staying focused, obeying speed limits, and never driving under the influence can literally mean the difference between life and death. These actions may seem small, but their impact can be life-changing.
The Sheriff’s Office also emphasizes the role that parents and guardians play in shaping driving behavior. “We encourage parents and guardians to have ongoing conversations with young drivers about responsibility behind the wheel, and we remind teens that every decision they make on the road affects not only themselves, but everyone around them.”
As the campaign continues throughout the month, the Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office encourages all young drivers to make safe choices, stay aware, and remember the power they hold every time they start the car.
“Be Safe! Be Responsible!”
