Powerball ticket worth two million dollars sold in Richmond
Richmond, Virginia – Someone in Richmond is holding a life-changing ticket after purchasing a winning Powerball ticket worth $2 million at the Wawa located at 7316 Forest Hill Avenue. The ticket matched the first five numbers in the October 25, 2025 drawing—2, 12, 22, 39, 67—but missed the Powerball number, which was 15.
While matching five numbers usually earns a $1 million prize, the winner had chosen to spend an extra dollar on the Power Play option, which doubles the prize to $2 million. That small decision paid off in a very big way.
According to the Virginia Lottery, “Whoever has the ticket has 180 days from the drawing date to claim the prize.” Officials strongly urge the winner to sign the back of the ticket immediately to establish ownership. Once ready to claim the winnings, the person should contact the Virginia Lottery directly.
This ticket was the only one in Virginia to match five numbers during Saturday night’s draw, and just one of two nationwide to do so. No one matched all six numbers, meaning the Powerball jackpot has rolled over and now sits at an estimated $358 million for the next drawing on Monday night.
Retailer Earns Bonus and Schools Benefit
The Wawa that sold the ticket will receive a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery, a reward given to retailers that sell large-prize winning tickets.
But the benefits of this ticket go beyond the winner and the retailer. All profits from the Virginia Lottery go directly to K-12 education across the Commonwealth. The city of Richmond alone received more than $22.5 million in Lottery proceeds for education during the last fiscal year.
In Fiscal Year 2025, the Virginia Lottery raised more than $901 million for public schools, accounting for roughly 10 percent of the state’s total K-12 education budget.
Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m., with odds of hitting the jackpot sitting at 1 in 292.2 million. The overall odds of winning any Powerball prize are 1 in 25.
