Multiple drop-off sites available for safe disposal of unused medications during Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on October 25

Roanoke, Virginia – In an important effort to safeguard public health and the environment, communities across Roanoke City, Roanoke County, Vinton, and Salem are encouraged to participate in Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, October 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This initiative provides a safe and responsible way for residents to dispose of old, unused, or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications.

Authorities are urging people to check their medicine cabinets and take part in the effort to keep potentially dangerous substances out of the wrong hands and out of the water supply. There are multiple designated drop-off sites for convenience. In Roanoke City, residents can visit Spirit of Life Church at 3428 Plantation Rd. NE. For those in the Salem area, a convenient location has been set up at Super Shoes, 1838 W. Main St.

Several other drop-off locations are available in Roanoke County and Vinton:

  • CVS Pharmacy, 7515 Williamson Rd.

  • Lewis Gale Standalone ER, 2706 Ogden Rd.

  • Lewis Gale Standalone ER, 1423 W. Ruritan Rd.

  • Kroger, 3971 Brambleton Ave.

  • Kroger, 915 Hardy Rd. in Vinton

This one-day event not only helps prevent the misuse of medications but also ensures drugs are disposed of in an environmentally friendly way. Flushing medications or throwing them in the trash can lead to contamination of water systems and pose risks to children, pets, and wildlife.

Organizers stress the importance of this event in reducing the risk of accidental poisonings, substance misuse, and environmental harm. Community members of all ages are welcome to participate, and no questions will be asked at drop-off locations.

By participating in this event, residents take a small but powerful step toward building a safer, healthier community.
