15-year-old girl died after her 16-year-old boyfriend showed up at her home saying he had nowhere to stay before shooting her at close range in the head with her mother’s gun; boyfriend arrested

Utah – In a heartbreaking act of domestic violence that has left a Utah community in mourning, a 16-year-old boy, identified as H. Plummer, has been charged with felony murder in the shooting death of his 15-year-old girlfriend, identified as C. Alvarez. Prosecutors announced that Plummer will be charged as an adult, facing a slate of felonies that include murder, obstruction of justice, theft of a firearm, possession of a dangerous weapon by a minor, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

The killing occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, when Plummer allegedly arrived at Alvarez’s home around 1 a.m., saying he had nowhere else to stay. Though he had previously lived in the home and kept belongings there, Alvarez’s family had asked him to move out weeks earlier, citing concerns about his behavior. But that night, the door was opened once again—and hours later, Alvarez was dead. At approximately 3 a.m., a witness inside the home awoke to the sound of gunfire and rushed downstairs. According to arrest affidavits, the witness encountered Plummer coming up the stairs with a gun in his hand. He quickly fled the home after the shooting.

When police responded, they discovered Alvarez’s lifeless body inside her bedroom with a single gunshot wound to the head. Forensic evidence confirmed that the shot had been fired at close range, with stippling around the entry wound, indicating the shooter was just feet away. Investigators found a single shell casing in the hallway outside Alvarez’s bedroom. The firearm used in the killing had belonged to Alvarez’s mother, who had recently purchased the gun and kept it in her bedroom. She told police it had gone missing and that she had last seen it the night before in her own room—not in her daughter’s. Police also discovered seven additional casings scattered a distance from the home, suggesting the suspect may have fired the gun elsewhere or attempted to discard evidence.

Following a brief manhunt, Plummer was arrested hours after the killing. He was found to be carrying several ounces of marijuana and $4,080 in cash. Police noted that the quantity of marijuana was “significantly larger than a user would possess,” pointing to an intent to distribute. Authorities have not yet recovered the murder weapon, and believe Plummer disposed of the gun after the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.

The tragedy has devastated those who knew Alvarez. A GoFundMe launched by her family describes her as a “beautiful and feisty spirit” who had big dreams for her future and a heart full of kindness. “She talked about her future with excitement and hope,” the tribute reads. “She had a determination that could move mountains.” The family’s grief was compounded by the knowledge that this wasn’t random — it was domestic violence. “As we grieve this unimaginable loss, we want to be clear that her passing is the result of domestic violence,” the fundraiser continues. “No child, no family, should ever have to endure this.”

Plummer is now being held without bail. Prosecutors are pressing forward with the case in adult court due to the severity of the charges. For Alvarez’s loved ones, the legal process will unfold in the shadow of immeasurable loss. Her life, filled with promise, was cut short not by a stranger’s hand, but by someone she once trusted—and that, her family says, is the most devastating part of all.
