Irritated 20-year-old man vented his anger on his 1-month-old son, leaving him hospitalized with brain injuries, just because the boy’s mother wouldn’t help him find the device he lost; arrested

Ohio – In a shocking incident in Ohio, a 1-month-old boy was hospitalized with serious brain injuries after a violent outburst by his 20-year-old father, identified as H. Dalton, who authorities say attacked both the infant and the child’s mother in a rage over a device he lost. The incident has left a young child hospitalized and a mother terrified, while the accused father now faces multiple felony charges.

Dalton has been charged with felonious assault, domestic violence by assault, and assault following the brutal attack that took place last Friday. According to court records and law enforcement statements, the assault began with a domestic dispute and escalated into a horrifying episode of violence directed at Dalton’s newborn.

Police were called to an apartment complex around 12:30 p.m. on September 19, following a 911 call placed by the baby’s mother. Fearing for her life and the life of her child, she took shelter in the complex’s leasing office with her dog. She told the dispatcher that Dalton had “just threatened to kill her and their 1-month-old baby.” When officers arrived, they found the mother still hiding and Dalton standing outside their apartment. He was immediately taken into custody. Inside, officers discovered the baby in his crib, struggling to breathe.

Emergency responders rushed the infant to a children’s hospital, where doctors discovered bleeding in the brain and brain damage. Medical staff expect the child to survive, though the full extent of long-term effects remains unknown. In her statement to police, the mother said Dalton’s anger erupted that morning after he couldn’t find his vaping device. When she refused to help him look because she was caring for their infant his rage intensified. He also became upset after noticing the family dog had chewed some tissues in the home.

What followed was a violent outburst. Dalton threw his girlfriend to the ground, kicked the dog, hurled a fan across the room, and threatened to kill both her and the baby. She also told investigators that Dalton had strangled her the day before, indicating a disturbing pattern of abuse. She described Dalton as someone who had always struggled with anger issues but said the birth of their child had left him easily irritated. Despite these warning signs, the level of violence shocked even the responding officers. Dalton, during his police interview, denied harming the baby and claimed he had merely moved the child from a bouncy seat to the crib. That statement stands in stark contrast to the infant’s injuries and the scene described by the mother.

Police Chief Deputy S. Wilson expressed both heartbreak and determination in the aftermath of the incident. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the young child who was the victim of this horrific act,” Wilson said. “We remain hopeful for his full recovery and ask the community to join us in supporting him and his family during this difficult time.” He went on to praise the police force’s “professionalism, compassion, and steadfast commitment to justice.”

Dalton is currently being held at the county correction center on a $1 million bond. If released, he will be barred from contacting the victims, owning a firearm, consuming alcohol, or making any threats. He is scheduled to appear in court for his arraignment on September 29, where the first steps toward legal resolution in this deeply disturbing case will begin. For now, a young infant fights to heal, and a mother looks for safety and justice.
