Roanoke County launches free septic tank pump-out program for eligible households
Roanoke, Virginia – In a timely opportunity for Roanoke County residents, households with septic systems may now apply for a FREE septic tank pump-out, thanks to a grant-backed initiative focused on public health and environmental protection. However, only a limited number of spots remain, and eligible residents are urged to apply soon before the current season ends.
The program, administered by the Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission in partnership with Roanoke County and the Virginia Environmental Endowment, aims to address the costly and environmentally damaging consequences of failed septic systems.
Who Is Eligible and How to Apply
To qualify, a household’s annual income must be at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Line. Full eligibility requirements and the application form are available online.
The initiative was created to reduce pollution, protect groundwater, and prevent property damage from untreated sewage backups. By offering free pump-outs, the program not only helps low-income households avoid high maintenance costs, but also contributes to safer, cleaner neighborhoods.
