Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office earns statewide recognition for combatting auto theft

Roanoke, Virginia – The Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office has received a prestigious acknowledgment for its efforts in combating auto theft across the Commonwealth. “The Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office is proud to share that we have been recognized by the Virginia State Police and recently awarded the Certificate of Merit for our efforts with the Help Eliminate Auto Theft (HEAT) program.”

Presented on September 16, 2025, the award honors the department’s dedicated public outreach and education campaigns under the 2025 HEAT Award – Public Outreach initiative. The certificate, granted in collaboration with law enforcement agencies statewide, commends the Sheriff’s Office “for working to help eliminate auto theft in the Commonwealth of Virginia.”

Through proactive community engagement, safety education, and partnerships with local and state agencies, the department has helped reduce car theft incidents and raised public awareness on how residents can better protect their vehicles. Officials emphasized that the award not only reflects internal agency work but also represents their deep investment in building trust and safety within neighborhoods.

“By actively engaging in prevention initiatives and education, we’re helping protect your vehicles, your neighborhoods, and your peace of mind,” the department stated in a release.

This recognition affirms Roanoke City’s ongoing efforts to maintain public safety through innovation, outreach, and collaboration.
