Lynchburg woman wins final $1 million Mega Stacks prize and chooses annuity payout
Lynchburg, Virginia – A Lynchburg woman became the last person to win the top prize in the Virginia Lottery’s Mega Stacks scratcher game, walking away with a life-changing $1 million.
The winner, who has chosen to remain anonymous as permitted under Virginia law, bought the lucky ticket at Fosters Convenience, located at 10951 Wards Road in Rustburg. She scratched the Mega Stacks ticket and was stunned to see the prize amount revealed.
A Surprising and Joyful Moment
“I didn’t think that this would happen!” she said, expressing her disbelief and excitement upon discovering she had just secured the game’s top prize.
This win marks the third and final top prize to be claimed in the Mega Stacks game, which means the game is now officially closed. According to the Virginia Lottery’s policy, once all top prizes in a scratcher game have been claimed, that particular game ends.
The odds of winning the top prize were incredibly slim, standing at 1 in 489,600. Even winning any prize at all in the Mega Stacks game came with odds of 1 in 4.26.
Big Decision Leads to Long-Term Rewards
The lucky winner had two payout options: a one-time cash option of $500,000 before taxes or the full $1 million paid out over 30 years through an annuity. Opting for long-term financial security, she chose the annuity payout plan.
The Virginia Lottery has not released further details about the winner, citing her decision to remain anonymous—a right available to all state lottery winners who receive prizes of $1 million or more.
As this final top prize is claimed, the Mega Stacks game now closes out, making way for future new games and more opportunities for Virginians to test their luck.
