“I’m so sorry, I loved my wife;” Man killed his wife after a physical altercation, then wrapped her body in a plastic and continued living with the body for over a month; arrested

Texas – In a disturbing case out of Texas, a 49-year-old man, identified as Charles B., has been arrested after admitting to killing his 44-year-old wife, identified as Angela B., and living with her body in their home for more than a month. Charles has been charged with tampering with evidence with intent to impair a human corpse. Authorities believe more charges, including murder, are likely once an autopsy is complete.

Charles was taken into custody on Sunday after Bexar County deputies responded to his home and found a decomposing body, believed to be that of his wife, Angela. While her identity has not been officially confirmed, law enforcement reported that the body was wrapped in plastic, carpet, and blankets, then secured with ratchet straps. The discovery was made following a tip from a relative who expressed concern that Charles “may have done something” to his wife. Charles appeared in court Monday, where his bond was set at $200,000. When approached by local reporters outside the courthouse, he admitted on camera, “I had a mental break. I’m so sorry. I loved my wife.” The statement was made just hours after his arrest and offered a chilling insight into the motive behind the tragic event.

According to an arrest affidavit, police first attempted to locate Charles over the weekend but were unsuccessful. When deputies arrived at the home on Saturday, they were overwhelmed by a strong odor of decomposition. Inside, they found the body in an advanced state, hidden inside the residence for over four weeks. During a press conference, Sheriff J. Salazar shared that Charles admitted to having a physical altercation with his wife on June 16 — an altercation that, according to him, resulted in her death. After Angela died, Charles reportedly lived in the home with her body and tried to mask the smell using various household products.

One of the most disturbing revelations came from the same relative who tipped off police. According to the affidavit, Charles allegedly confessed to the relative that he had killed his wife. That family member also said they had smelled the odor of decomposition while visiting the home. When deputies finally located Charles, he was outside the home and reportedly surrendered peacefully with his hands raised. Law enforcement said Charles cooperated with investigators during questioning.

Following his arrest, Charles was fired from his job as a janitor with a school district in Texas. A district spokesperson confirmed his termination and stated that he did not have direct contact with students while employed. At this time, Charles remains held at the county jail. Sheriff Salazar stated during the press conference that once the autopsy results are confirmed, “at least a murder charge” will likely be added.

Angela’s official cause and manner of death will be determined by the medical examiner’s office. Until then, the family and community are left reeling from the tragedy. Charles’ calm demeanor during his arrest and the shocking length of time he spent in the home with Angela’s body have raised questions about mental health, domestic violence, and the signs that may have gone unnoticed. The case continues to unfold as authorities await forensic results and prepare for the likely filing of more serious charges in what has already been a deeply unsettling investigation.
