33-year-old man, who stabbed his 5 months pregnant wife to death because he wasn’t happy with the gender of the unborn baby and then stabbed his 6-and-9-year-old daughters, was sentenced
New York – In a harrowing case in New York that left a family grappling with emotional trauma, a 33-year-old man, identified as Drew G., has been sentenced after admitting to the brutal stabbing death of his pregnant 29-year-old wife, identified as Samantha G., and the attempted murder of their two young daughters. The attack, prosecutors say, was driven by his anger over the gender of the unborn child.
Drew was sentenced to 30 years in prison, followed by 15 years of probation, after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and two counts of assault in the killing of his wife, Samantha, who was five months pregnant with their third daughter, and in the stabbing of their two daughters, aged 6 and 9. The tragic events unfolded on September 4, 2024, at the couple’s home two days after Labor Day. According to the New York State Police, officers responded to what was reported as a domestic dispute. When authorities arrived, Drew surrendered at the scene and was taken into custody. He had sustained superficial wounds and was treated at a local hospital before being transported to jail, where he was held without bail.
Samantha, who was airlifted to a hospital, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Their two young daughters were also injured in the attack but survived and have since been placed in the care of family members. In court during Drew’s sentencing hearing, Samantha’s father delivered a heartbreaking victim impact statement in which he publicly addressed what he believed was the motive behind the crime. “He had wanted a boy,” he told the court.
While authorities did not offer a specific motive during their investigation, this comment provided critical insight into the emotional dynamics behind the violence. Samantha’s father said the girls were deeply traumatized and that the emotional scars from witnessing their mother’s death and enduring the assault themselves would take years to heal. Despite the horrific nature of the attack, Drew asked the court for permission to contact his daughters during his incarceration. District Attorney S. Smith strongly objected, requesting that no-contact orders be put in place for as long as legally allowed.
Judge J. Hubbard granted the request, imposing stay-away orders through 2056, though he noted that the girls would ultimately have the right to initiate contact with their father if they chose to do so once they reached adulthood. Drew, however, refused to sign the orders. “You took a life and injured your children,” Judge Hubbard told him. “They had a right to expect protection from you.” Before the tragedy, Samantha’s social media portrayed a loving family, filled with smiling pictures of her, Drew, and their daughters. Those images now serve as a haunting contrast to the brutal reality that unfolded inside their home.
In addition to the murder and assault charges, Drew had faced felony firearm charges, including possession of an AK-47, though these were not central to the final sentencing agreement. With the case now closed, Drew begins a long prison term while the two surviving girls try to rebuild their lives under the care of extended family. What began as a quiet domestic conflict ended in unthinkable violence, leaving behind deep wounds and a lifetime of healing still ahead.
