Toddler died shortly before his 2nd birthday after his mother’s boyfriend she dated for just a month beat the boy to death while she was running errands; boyfriend charged

New Hampshire – In a harrowing incident that has shaken New Hampshire residents, a 22-year-old man, identified as A. Bliss, has been charged with murder after he beat his girlfriend’s 23-month-old son, identified as L. Hudson, to death. The charges were filed following a lengthy investigation into the toddler’s death, which occurred in January 2024 under distressing circumstances.

On the morning of January 14, 2024, emergency services were called to an apartment after receiving reports of a child in severe medical distress. Upon their arrival, first responders found Hudson unconscious and struggling to breathe. Despite immediate efforts to save him, Hudson was rushed to the hospital, where he tragically passed away three days later, just a month before his second birthday. The cause of death was determined by the medical examiner to be blunt force trauma to the head, ruling the manner of death as homicide.

The investigation into Hudson’s death spanned over a year, culminating in charges against Bliss, who had been dating Hudson’s mother for only a month prior to the incident. According to a probable cause arrest affidavit, Bliss was the only adult with Hudson the night before emergency personnel were called. During this time, Hudson’s mother had left the apartment to run errands for nearly an hour.

Surveillance footage and interviews conducted during the investigation suggested that the fatal injuries occurred while Bliss was alone with Hudson. Despite text exchanges between Bliss and the child’s mother during her absence indicating nothing was amiss, neighbors reported hearing the child cry for an extended period. Bliss at the time told detectives he was speaking with his sister while his girlfriend was running errands. Bliss’s sister, initially claiming to have been on the phone with him at the time, later ceased cooperating with law enforcement, adding suspicion to his account.

Upon the mother’s return, the couple retired to their bedroom, unaware of the looming tragedy. It was only hours later that Bliss noticed Hudson vomiting in his crib. The child was bathed and then brought to sleep in the same bed as the couple, where he complained of a headache but showed no external signs of trauma. Despite this, Bliss made concerning internet searches regarding symptoms that suggested severe internal head injuries but did not seek immediate medical help.

Medical examinations later revealed that Hudson had suffered extensive internal bleeding in the brain and hemorrhaging in both eyes, leading to fatal swelling. The medical experts found no evidence of an accidental cause for the injuries, pinpointing the timing of the injuries to the period Bliss was alone with the child. Bliss was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, among other charges. He is currently held at the county jail with a scheduled court appearance on April 3, where he will face the consequences of his actions. No bail was granted due to the severity of the charges.

In the wake of the tragedy, Hudson’s obituary painted a picture of a joyful and vibrant child who loved turtles, dogs, and playing with his brother. His life, marked by his love for “Mickey Mouse” and playful spirit, was commemorated by a grief-stricken community left to grapple with the senseless nature of his death. As the legal proceedings continue, the community and Hudson’s family await justice, hoping for closure in a case that has highlighted the devastating consequences of domestic violence and child abuse.
