Luna Labs plans to add high paying jobs in Charlottesville as part of facility expansion

Charlottesville, Virginia – Governor Glenn Youngkin announced today that Luna Labs USA, LLC, a cutting-edge product development company, will invest $200,000 to expand its operations in Charlottesville, creating 20 new high-tech jobs. The expansion reflects Luna Labs’ continued growth and its vital role in Virginia’s expanding technology and innovation sector.

“Luna Labs’ expansion demonstrates Virginia’s ability to cultivate and retain innovative technology companies,” said Governor Youngkin. “When high-tech firms choose to grow in the Commonwealth, it reinforces our position as a hub for research and development, particularly in sectors like aerospace, energy and defense. LunaLabs’ success story showcases how Virginia’s world-class talent pipeline and collaborative ecosystem help companies thrive.”

Strengthening Virginia’s Innovation Corridor

Founded in 2022, Luna Labs has operations in both Charlottesville and Blacksburg, working closely with government agencies and private companies to develop solutions in the defense, industrial, and healthcare industries. Their expansion in Charlottesville follows a similar move to increase capacity in Blacksburg, further cementing their presence along Virginia’s innovation corridor.

“The growth of companies like Luna Labs strengthens Virginia’s leadership in emerging technologies,” said Secretary of Commerce and Trade Caren Merrick. “This expansion not only creates new jobs in cutting-edge fields but also advances research that can lead to commercially viable solutions across multiple industries. Luna Labs’ commitment to growth in both Charlottesville and Blacksburg demonstrates the strength of Virginia’s innovation corridor.”

Luna Labs CEO James Garrett expressed confidence in Charlottesville’s business climate and local assets:
“Luna Labs is excited to continue our growth in Charlottesville. This location has been a huge advantage for us – bringing talent, partners and customers all within easy reach. We’ve built a world-class team that’s flourishing in central Virginia.”

Local and Statewide Support for Innovation

Community leaders echoed strong support for the company’s commitment to the region. “The connection between our institutions of higher learning and the tech community continues to bring good jobs to and keep amazing talent in the Commonwealth,” said Senator Creigh Deeds. “I appreciate the leadership at Luna Labs for your sustained investment and innovation.”

Delegate Katrina Callsen highlighted the company’s impact on the broader region: “Luna Labs’ growth in Charlottesville showcases our region’s strength in research and development. This expansion creates high-tech job opportunities while advancing innovations that will shape multiple industries. We’re proud to see homegrown companies like Luna Labs choose to deepen their roots in the Piedmont.”

Mayor Juandiego Wade also praised the decision: “Luna Labs’ approach to innovation is a perfect fit for Charlottesville. We are delighted to see their continued growth in our city.”

Investment in Talent and Export Potential

Luna Labs is currently enrolled in the Virginia Leaders in Export Trade (VALET) Program, with a graduation date set for July 2026. This program helps established Virginia businesses expand into international markets. Additionally, employee recruitment and training support will be provided through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program, a key state resource that helps businesses hire and train new employees efficiently.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, in collaboration with the City of Charlottesville, played a central role in supporting Luna Labs through the expansion process and inclusion in state programs.

With this expansion, Luna Labs continues to prove that Virginia is fertile ground for innovation, talent, and forward-thinking business.
