Woman said her 17-year-old son insisted on dying before his birthday so she tried to get him to stop breathing before cutting his throat with a knife; charged
Michigan – In a harrowing incident that shocked Michigan residents, a 39-year-old mother, identified as K. Lee, has been charged with the murder of her 17-year-old son, who she claimed wanted to die before his birthday. Lee is facing charges of open murder and resisting an officer following the tragic death of her son, identified as A. Pikaart.
The chilling events unfolded in the home where Lee and her son resided. On the morning of the incident, Lee dialed 911, confessing to dispatchers that she had attempted to fulfill her son’s wish to end his life before he turned 18 the following day. According to court documents, Lee distressingly recounted to the dispatcher that she had tried various methods to stop her son from breathing, ultimately resorting to cutting his throat and arm with a knife after he passed out.
According to reports, Lee also claimed she and Pikaart had attempted to overdose on medication earlier that Thursday afternoon. Several hours later, as Pikaart lay unconscious, Lee used the knife on him. This admission came after police responded to the scene early Friday morning following her 911 call.
Upon arrival just after 4 a.m., responding officers were met with a grim scene. Lee, still clutching a large kitchen knife and covered in blood, answered the door. The initial encounter was tense, with Lee appearing ready to confront the officers. Despite multiple commands to drop the knife, she continued to hold the weapon until an officer attempted to use a Taser, which proved ineffective.
Lee then discarded the knife in the hallway and attempted to retrieve it, leading to a brief struggle before officers finally subdued and handcuffed her. While restrained, Lee made a startling statement to the officers, expressing a desire to be killed so she could join her son, as per reports. Inside the apartment, officers discovered Pikaart’s body on his bed, having lost large amounts of blood. An autopsy later confirmed that the cut to his neck was the cause of death, officially ruling it a homicide.
The community has been left in shock by the incident, prompting the creation of a GoFundMe page to cover Pikaart’s burial costs. The fundraiser describes Pikaart as a “caring, humorous, and playful” individual who had a passion for video games and loved all things related to space and the galaxy. As the legal process unfolds, Lee faces a grim future with the possibility of life imprisonment if convicted. Currently held without bond, she has been deemed a flight risk and a danger to the community. Lee, who is unemployed and claims to be disabled, expressed her financial and personal struggles during her arrest.
A probable cause conference has been scheduled, followed by a preliminary mental health examination to assess Lee’s psychological state. This tragic case has also highlighted the lack of prior court-ordered mental health interventions for either the mother or the son, despite their decade-long residency. As the case progresses, the community and legal system grapple with the complexities of mental health issues intertwined with criminal justice, all under the shadow of a young life lost and a family forever altered.
