Roanoke County Parks and Public Schools collaborate to offer lifeguard training for high school students
Roanoke, Virginia – Roanoke County Parks, Recreation and Tourism is partnering with Roanoke County Public Schools to introduce an innovative lifeguard training program designed for high school students. This new initiative, set to begin on March 5, offers an eight-week course that will equip students with essential skills in water safety, emergency response, and lifeguarding responsibilities.
Comprehensive Training for Future Lifeguards
The program incorporates a mix of virtual coursework, classroom instruction, and in-water training to provide participants with a well-rounded learning experience. Through the use of modern teaching methods and hands-on practice, students will gain expertise in rescue techniques, CPR, and first aid. Those who successfully complete the course will have the opportunity to earn the prestigious Ellis & Associates Lifeguard License, a credential that enhances their qualifications for future employment.
In addition to providing necessary skills, this program serves as a pathway to job opportunities for students aged 15 and older. Lifeguarding is not only a valuable first job but also fosters responsibility, leadership, and decision-making abilities that can benefit participants in various aspects of life.
