6-year-old girl who was found unconscious with blood clots in her eyes died after her mother kept her under water in a tub for nearly half an hour; mother pleads not guilty

New York – In a heartbreaking case from New York, a 26-year-old mother, identified as K. Espinal, faces serious charges after her 6-year-old daughter died under disturbing circumstances. Espinal has been charged with felony assault and reckless endangerment following the death of her young daughter, who was found unconscious in a bathtub.

On February 7th, emergency responders were called to Espinal’s residence, where she lived with the girl’s father and their other children. Upon arrival, they discovered the young girl unresponsive with alarming signs of distress, including blood clots in her eyes, indicative of a severe struggle. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she was tragically pronounced dead.

During her arraignment where she pleaded not guilty, it was revealed in court that Espinal told police she was “baptizing” her daughter in the bathtub at the time of the incident. This statement has led to further scrutiny of her actions during those fatal moments. The gravity of the situation is compounded by the father’s texts to his manager, expressing his despair and hope for a miracle shortly after his daughter’s death was confirmed. According to reports, Espinal has been placed on suicide watch and is required to undergo psychiatric evaluation, suggesting concerns about her mental health.

The community and the family are left reeling from the event, with many unanswered questions about the circumstances leading up to the tragedy. Espinal remains in custody without bail, and the court has scheduled her next appearance for February 14th. Prosecutors have hinted at the possibility of additional charges pending the outcome of an ongoing autopsy that seeks to clarify the exact cause of death.

This case highlights the critical need for vigilance and mental health support in our communities to prevent such tragedies and protect vulnerable children. The investigation continues, and all involved are hoping for justice and answers in this deeply unsettling case.
