Roanoke College becomes latest Virginia institution to join HACU

Roanoke, Virginia – Roanoke College, one of Virginia’s premier institutions of higher learning, has announced its membership in the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the advancement of Hispanic students in higher education.

With this new partnership, Roanoke College is set to become a beacon of inclusivity and diversity in the region, attracting even more Hispanic students seeking a world-class education.

According to college officials, Roanoke College has experienced a significant increase in Hispanic applications over the past five years, with a remarkable 11.65% rise in this particular demographic. In addition, first-year Hispanic enrollment has surged by an impressive 73%, indicating the college’s deep commitment to attracting and retaining talented Hispanic students.

“We are thrilled to be a part of HACU and to support its mission of empowering Hispanic students,” said Roanoke College President Frank Shushok Jr. “Our partnership with HACU marks an important milestone in our ongoing efforts to create a welcoming, inclusive environment where all students can thrive and achieve their full potential. We look forward to working closely with HACU to provide even more educational and career opportunities for our Hispanic students.”

Roanoke College’s Assistant Director of Admissions, Janny Alvarado, who focuses on Latinx recruitment, added, “This new membership will enable us to enhance our support for Hispanic students, both current and incoming, and will provide them with access to invaluable resources and experts. It’s an exciting time for our college community, and we can’t wait to see the positive impact this partnership will have on our students’ academic and professional journeys.”
