Drivers on Route 28 North urged to plan ahead for weekend lane closures
Fairfax, Virginia – Drivers on Route 28 North between I-66 and Westfields Boulevard should prepare for lane closures from the evening of Saturday, Nov. 9, through Sunday evening, Nov. 10, for critical underground pipe repairs. At least two lanes will remain open, but motorists are encouraged to expect delays and consider alternative routes during this time. This repair work is part of the ongoing Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
Closure Details and Schedule
- Saturday, Nov. 9, 6 p.m.: Three left lanes on Route 28 North, starting just north of I-66 and stretching for about a mile, will be closed. During this time, two right lanes will remain open for through traffic.
- Sunday, Nov. 10, 11 a.m.: One additional lane will reopen, allowing for three travel lanes on Route 28 North.
- Ramp Restrictions: The ramp from I-66 East and the 66 Express Lanes East to Route 28 North will be limited to a single travel lane for the duration of the work.
- Full Reopening: All lanes are expected to be fully reopened by 7 p.m. Sunday evening.
