Weekend road closures planned for East Broad Street over I-95 in Richmond
Richmond, Virginia – The Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) design-build contractor, Kokosing Construction Company (KCC), is set to proceed with the replacement of the bridge on East Broad Street (Route 250) over Interstate 95 in Richmond. The project, weather permitting, will result in a closure over the weekend.
Scheduled Closures and Traffic Impact
The scheduled closure will begin on Friday, July 19, at 8 p.m. and continue through Monday, July 22, at 6 a.m. During this period, both the northbound and southbound travel lanes of I-95 at mile marker 74 will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Additionally, Broad Street in both directions at the bridge over I-95 will be closed throughout the weekend. Despite these closures, pedestrian access on Broad Street will remain available.
Future weekend closures will be communicated as the project progresses to ensure the public is informed well in advance.
Detour Routes and Recommendations
To help motorists navigate around the work zone and avoid significant delays, detours will be implemented. Motorists traveling through the Richmond area are advised to use I-295, I-195, Route 288, and Route 1/301 as alternative routes.
