Roanoke Symphony Orchestra takes center stage this Fourth of July in Richmond

Richmond, Virginia – The Roanoke Symphony Orchestra is thrilled to announce its participation in the upcoming VA 250 Commission’s Independence Day Celebration titled “A Celebration of Freedom and Our Nation’s Founding.” This grand event is scheduled for July 4, 2024, from 5 to 9 PM at Capitol Square, located at 1000 Bank Street in Richmond, Virginia. As the state celebrates this monumental occasion, the grounds of the Virginia State Capitol are set to transform into a vibrant festival embodying the spirit of the nation and the diverse communities that enrich Virginia.

Inspired by John Adams’ vision for a grand celebration of the nation’s independence, the event promises a diverse lineup of performances ranging from music to dance and spoken word. These performances are meticulously planned to lead up to unifying keynote remarks and a spectacular finale that promises to captivate all attendees. David Crane, Executive Director of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, shared his excitement about the event, saying, “We are deeply honored to be a part of such a significant celebration of our nation’s independence. This return trip to Richmond gives us a wonderful opportunity to bring the joy of music to audiences outside of the valley area and contribute to an event that embodies the spirit of unity and freedom.”

The event will not only showcase the musical talents of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra but will also feature a variety of notable speakers and performers. The lineup includes Geoff Bennett from PBS News Hour as the Master of Ceremonies, Carly Fiorina serving as the VA250 National Honorary Chair, and a portrayal of Thomas Jefferson by Kurt Smith from Colonial Williamsburg. Additional performances will include the Colonial Williamsburg Fifes & Drums, The DAY Program, Quantico Marine Band, New Fellowship Gospel Choir, and representatives from Virginia’s Tribal Nations.

Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic blankets to enjoy the festivities comfortably, as chairs are not permitted on site. The event also offers the convenience of free parking and shuttle service, ensuring that all participants can enjoy this memorable public celebration without hassle.
