Virginia casinos generate over $63 million in gaming revenue for November 2024

Portsmouth, Virginia – The Virginia Lottery has released its November 2024 casino gaming activity report, highlighting robust financial contributions from the state’s three operational casinos: Hard Rock Bristol, Rivers Casino Portsmouth, and Caesars Virginia. These facilities collectively generated $63.6 million in adjusted gaming revenue (AGR), with $13.3 million allocated to taxes benefiting various state and community programs.

Casino Revenue Breakdown

In November, slot machines remained the primary revenue driver, contributing $47.9 million across the three casinos. Table games added $15.7 million to the monthly total. Here’s a breakdown of the revenue performance by casino:

  • Hard Rock Bristol:
    • Slots: $15.5 million
    • Table Games: $2.6 million
    • Total AGR: $18.1 million
  • Rivers Casino Portsmouth:
    • Slots: $17.9 million
    • Table Games: $7.8 million
    • Total AGR: $25.7 million
  • Caesars Virginia:
    • Slots: $14.5 million
    • Table Games: $5.3 million
    • Total AGR: $19.8 million

The casinos have collectively solidified their role as key contributors to Virginia’s economy, supporting local and statewide initiatives.

Tax Contributions and Allocations

Virginia law mandates a graduated tax on casino AGR, with the $13.3 million collected in November distributed among several funds and programs. Allocations include:

  • Host Cities or the Regional Improvement Commission (RIC): $4.19 million was distributed to host cities, with Bristol’s share directed to the RIC.
  • Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund: $106,558 was allocated to promote responsible gambling and support addiction treatment.
  • Family and Children’s Trust Fund: $26,640 was reserved for programs aiding families and children.
  • Gaming Proceeds Fund: The remaining $8.99 million supports broader community and economic initiatives across Virginia.

Operational Milestones

Each casino has undergone significant developments since receiving approval from the Virginia Lottery Board:

  • Hard Rock Bristol opened its permanent facility on November 14, 2024, following the launch of its temporary site in July 2022.
  • Rivers Casino Portsmouth began operations on January 23, 2023, after securing its license in November 2022.
  • Caesars Virginia welcomed guests to its temporary Danville location on May 15, 2023, following its April 2023 licensing.
