Mom left weeks-old infant with father for half an hour before he killed the crying baby because he was feeling stressed while taking care of the child

Miami, Florida – The authorities finally provided more details regarding the terrible case that left Florida residents in disbelief in which several weeks-old infants died and the father now appears to be the primary suspect of mistreating and hitting the child prior to his death. The 25-year-old E. Davis, the father of the baby, faces charges of first-degree felony murder and aggravated child abuse after he admitted to causing fatal injuries to his infant son. The incident unfolded on June 10 local police were called to a home following reports of a non-breathing infant.

Responding officers arrived at the scene around 11 a.m. and discovered the dead baby. Although the six-week-old baby was sent urgently to a local hospital, the infant was declared dead soon after arrival. The mother reported to the authorities that she had fed the infant before taking a shower and found the infant unconscious when she got back. The mother confirmed the chronology: she had left the baby alone with Davis for roughly half an hour while taking a shower.

However, the results of the baby’s autopsy on June 11 painted a different picture. The examination indicated serious internal injuries including several fractures, all consistent with blunt force trauma. Older rib fractures found during the postmortem also pointed to a history of physical violence. Some of the injuries, which ranged in degree and type, led police to conclude they were intentionally and forcefully inflicted; some of them moments before the baby died.

Davis’s story started to fall apart in a later June 12 interview. Originally claiming the injuries were accidental, he said he had “accidentally” slammed the baby’s head on a door frame and later used his knee to try to stop a fall by striking the rear of the child’s head. But his statements contradicted the medical data, which made investigators even more suspicious.

On June 19, the case turned dramatically when Davis and the mother of the baby went back to the police station to deliver the medical documents of the newborn. Davis admitted during a third interview that he had at least twice knocked the back of the baby’s head with his knee. He said his violent behavior had resulted from his stress over the baby’s constant crying. Davis insisted on the fatal injuries being accidental even after admitting.

Following his confession, Davis was arrested and booked in jail without bond. The details of the case have left the Melbourne community reeling, as they struggle to comprehend the senseless tragedy. Authorities underlined the need of protecting children and advised anyone who would know about the abuse of minors to report it immediately. The local police department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the case, working to ensure justice for the innocent victim.
