Roanoke’s ‘Back to School Extravaganza’ to showcase ‘Load the Bus’ success
Roanoke, Virginia – The recently held “Load the Bus” event in Roanoke has resulted in a commendable collection of supplies, ready for distribution to families requiring assistance.
On Tuesday, with the involvement of volunteers from two local enterprises, over 3,000 bags were prepared for Roanoke City students. The considerable need has been duly noted, and a significant number of students are anticipated to commence the academic year adequately equipped, a result of the community’s generous contributions.
Claire Mitzel, a representative from RCPS, remarked, “Our community’s willingness to help support our students is evident right here as we pack these supplies. It’s always so wonderful to see our students have exactly what they need to start the year off right.”
Chuck Ortt, a claims manager at Erie Insurance and a community volunteer, expressed his surprise and delight at the magnitude of the contribution. He shared, “I initially in my mind was thinking hundreds of bags, when I was told thousands of bags that definitely put a bigger smile on my face and everybody here’s face because we knew it was gonna have a huge impact to our community.”
The packed supplies are slated for distribution at RCPS’ “Back to School Extravaganza,” scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon at William Fleming High School.
Per information from the district’s official online portal, enrolled students of RCPS are entitled to avail these items at no charge, with the provision being subject to availability.
