Public hearing on new elementary school in Roanoke postponed until August
Roanoke, Virginia – The scheduled public hearing and vote regarding the development plans for the new Preston Park Elementary School have been delayed until August.
The Roanoke Planning Commission had originally intended to hold the public hearing and make a decision on the project on Monday afternoon. However, differences have arisen between the city planners and the school administration over certain aspects of the project, such as the proposed distance of the building from the street.
The request for the delay was put forth by the school system.
Archie Freeman, the Chief Academic Officer for Roanoke City Public Schools, commented on the situation.
“The postponement provides us an opportunity to reassess our plans, examine zoning requirements, and collaboratively work with every party involved, including stakeholders and parents,” Freeman said. “Our aim is to gather valuable input and make decisions that best serve the interests of our students.”
Freeman reassures that despite the deferment of the public hearing and planning commission vote, the overall timeline for the project should remain unaffected.
